Ashton Myles Clatterbuck lived a fiercely compassionate life. He died in the early hours of February 27, 2024 at the age of twenty-two. He was attending Montclair State University in New Jersey where he was a junior majoring in political science and journalism.

Ashton was in constant motion and pursued many passions. He loved his family. He loved words, sketch booking, and telling stories. He loved running eighty miles a week. He loved helping others, making people smile, road trips across America, exploring abandoned houses. He loved his Tucquan Glen home and trails along the Susquehanna River. He loved rallies and marches and direct actions for justice. He loved his dog Zaphy. Reading. Good food. Camping. Unicycling. Never sitting down. Scavenger hunts. Music. The moon.

Ashton was wired for compassion and action. He was a force of nature in a number of social justice movements. He was especially active in work for environmental justice, LGBTQ rights, and gun safety laws. He also thrived on campaigning for political candidates committed to defending the Earth and advocating for marginalized communities.

Ashton was deeply involved in many local and national organizations, including Lancaster Against Pipelines, the YMCA, Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster, Lancaster Stands Up, Lancaster LGBTQ+ Coalition, Sunrise Movement, Trevor Project, Earth Quaker Action Team, and many others.

Ashton lived fearlessly and cared for others with selfless generosity. His fire was insatiable and contagious. May we all live and love a little more fearlessly as we keep his legacy alive.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ashton Myles Clatterbuck Memorial Fund (GoFundMe) to support the social justice causes that mattered most to him: https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-ashton-myles-clatterbuck-memorial-fund.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 16, 2024, from 1-3 PM at the Country Barn, 211 South Donerville Road, Lancaster PA 17603.
